Sony Ultra-HD 4K TV (XBR-84X900 4K TV) unveiled, 84-inch TV set, to be available in US in late 2012

Sony unveiled on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 its so-called Ultra-HD 4K TV, the 84-inch TV set (XBR-84X900 4K TV), and is first ever TV capable of displaying 4K images; which promises a full cinema-like experience being delivered to the living room with an immersive, full-bodied and rich sound.

According to a press release by Sony on its official press site that day, this Ultra-HD 4K TV is is equipped with a 4K (3840 x 2160) LCD panel, delivering an image four times the resolution of Full HD and creating an immerse viewing experience previously unavailable from a TV.

As noted in the report, the new Sony TV is designed to ensure that every frame looks clear and crisp, with a 4K resolution regardless of the content source, where viewers can now watch video on the large screen and will not see any the degradation of image quality contained in TV sets with larger screen sizes.

“From Trinitron to HD, 3D and now 4K, Sony has led the way, innovating TV since 1968. This new model redefines what consumers should expect from their television’s performance,” Sony Electronics TV Group Vice President Brian Siegel was quoted in the report.

“Our professional division continues to see the migration toward 4K content creation with major film and broadcast productions. Armed with this knowledge and expertise, only Sony continues to push the television experience with innovation and immersive products.” Siegel added.

In addition to the picture quality, Sony noted that there is a 10 Unit Live Speaker system incorporated in this Ultra-HD 4K TV, which is optimized for this large-sized screen, with its side speakers also being detachable that allows consumers to connect to an existing home theater system.

This Sony XBR-84X900 4K TV allows consumers to connect a digital camera, where digital photos can be displayed on the large screen at 4K resolution. It also has full network connectivity, allowing consumers to view their photos via a tablet or smartphone with the downloadable Media Remote App.

Sony did not mention its price yet, and is being expected to be announced soon; but noted that it will arrive in Sony stores and select retail locations in North America later this year. The full specs of this Sony Ultra-HD 4K TV can be found at
