Sony Ericsson plans to launch two new Android models, Xperia Active and Xperia Ray

Sony Ericsson will commence its two latest Android smartphones within the next quarter, according to international reports on Wednesday, June 22, 2011.

Xperia Ray and Xperia Active were reported as the two new models to be launched. Xperia Ray was noted to be having a a 3.3-inch display with Mobile Bravia Engine, 1GHz processor, eight-megapixel camera with Exmor R sensor and Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, in which it could hit the market.

On the other hand, Xperia Active was seemed to be a rugged smartphone, dust and water proof, showing a 1GHz processor, five-megapixel camera, Android Gingerbread and some great add-ons, in which it could attract more on athletes because of its arm band support.

It was believed that these new models would have a big contribution to support the company in the market share.

Chief Marketing Officer Steve Walker was quoted saying, “Android smartphones is a rapidly growing part of the market, and we see our share within that market growing.”

Moreover, Walker said in the reports that in the year 2015, an approximate 60 percent sales of mobile phones in Asia-Pacific would be the smartphones.

“We made quite a fundamental shift in strategy and decided to focus a large part of our efforts into smartphones, to focus on the mid- and high-end part of the business.” He added
