Shortlist for the BP Portrait Award 2011 Revealed

The finalist for the BP (British Petroleum) Portrait Award was unveiled, April 13, 2011 by the National Portrait Gallery.  The shortlisted BP portrait entries were that of Louis Smith, Sertan Saltan, Ian Cumberland, and Wim Heldens. This was disclosed by entertainment news.

The prize is £25,000 which will be awarded on June 14, 2011. The winner will also be awarded a £4,000 commission. Another award the BP Young Artist Award will be given to 18 to 30 year-old participants. There were 2,372 entries.

In an interview Sandy Nairne, the Gallery Director of the National Portrait Gallery said that contemporary portraiture remains “an energetic and telling force.”

The BP Portrait Award is:

“Aimed at encouraging artists to focus upon, and develop, the theme of painted portraiture within their work.”
