Shanghai high rise fire death toll climbs to 53 (Video)

The Shanghai high rise fire death toll now climbs to 53 and more than 70 wounded people was brought to the hospital, as of 9:20 a.m. Tuesday; local authorities told the international news sites.

In earlier reports, the 28-story building at the intersection of Jiaozhou Road and Yuyao Road in Jing’an District was said to have caught fire at about 2:15 p.m. on Monday.

The fire lasted for about 4 hours, and only after local authorities send off 25 fire units and more than 100 fire engines to the building on fire, which also under renovation.

Other survivors ran to the roof but were trapped, not until they were rescued through a helicopter rescue team.

As of this writing, the cause of the fire is not yet known, but a team of local investigators are now gathering data to check if there are people responsible.

Meanwhile, Chinese Public Security Minister Meng Jianzhu was said to have visited the area on Tuesday morning to guide the rescuers and comfort the victims in hospitals.

Apparently, some witnesses told the news that they saw fire on the scaffolding and spread instantly.
