Shammi Kapoor, India’s “Elvis Presley,” who starred in more than a hundred of Bollywood films has passed away on August 14, 2011 at the age of 79, as reported by local Indian news sites on the same date.

Kapoor breathe his last at the Breach Candy Hospital where he has been undergoing dialysis treatment because of chronic renal failure.

He was considered a legendary figure in Bollywood for his rise to fame in the 1950s and 1960s with a score of successful films like Junglee, China Town, Bluff Master, Janwar and Bramhachari, where he received his first Best Actor Award.

The Bollywood community and his legion of fans considered him the “Elvis Presley of India.”

Shammi Kapoor had established the Internet Users Community of India (IUCI), which had added more feathers to his cap, aside from his acting and Life Achievement Awards.

Kapoor is survived by Neela Devi Goohil, his wife; Kanchan Desai, his daughter; and Aditya Raj, his son.
