Defending champion Serena Williams won the Wimbledon 2011 Round 3, after beating Maria Kirilenko of Russia on Saturday, June 25, 2011.

As noted at British news sites that day, Serena Williams beat 24-year old Maria Kirilenko, who ranked 26 in the world, 6-3 and 6-2, held in London, England.

“I feel like I keep improving,” she told BBC Sport after the game. “It is just getting the rhythm that I have been missing a little bit and its getting better.”

Apparently, this was her first straight-set victory in five matches since she returned from an almost a year of absence due to health concerns.

For Round 4, Serena Williams will face ninth seed Marion Bartoli, the current French No. 1 player and a 2009 Wimbledon runner-up.

Last Thursday, Serena Williams won the second round of Wimbledon 2011 when she beat Simona Halep of Romania, 3-6 6-2 6-1, with the former complaining of favoritism after the game.
