As noted at local news sites on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, Sen. Lito Lapid stood for the first time that day during the CJ Renato Corona impeachment trial, which is on its Day 10 and asked questions.

Lapid, 56, a former action star and will star in a teleserye (TV series) soon at ABS-CBN, questioned the prosecution about the P11 million posted on the SALN (Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth) of CJ Corona as “liability”.

That day, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Director Benito Cataran was presented by the prosecution and testified that they had already revoked the license of Basa-Guidote Enterprises Inc. (BGEI) in 2003, the same year CJ Corona allegedly availed the P11 million from the company.

As presented by Cataran, BGEI was registered at SEC on May 30, 1961 and noted that neither CJ Corona nor his wife Cristina Roco-Corona were listed as shareholders in the company, which is what the prosecution said they want to clarify.

“Ang nakalagay po sa SALN ni CJ Corona [ay] nag-cash advance siya ng P11 million. Ano po ang diperensya or pagkakaiba ng cash advance sa utang?” Senator Lapid asked the prosecution panel.

(The SALN of CJ Corona states that the P11 million is cash advance. What’s the difference between cash advance and loan?)

“Hindi namin maintindihan, hindi naman po shareholder si CJ Corona, maging si Cristina Corona pero nag-cacash advance po sila dito,” Mindoro Oriental Representative Reynaldo Umali replied.

(We cannot understand this. Neither the Chief Justice nor his wife were shareholders of the company)

“So ibig ninyo pong sabihin, tanung-tanong kayo… ilang oras na tayo dito, yan lang ang gusto ninyong sabihin, yung P11 million na inutang o kinash advance o ni-loan?” the senator from Pampanga added.

(So you mean, you’ve been asking a lot of questions… we’ve been here for many hours already and that’s all you want to establish, whether that P11 million is a cash advance or a loan?)
