According to TMZ, sources told them that veteran journalist Scott Pelley is a choice of CBS News Chairman Jeff Fager to replace Katie Couric if she leaves CBS Evening News.

Pelley, 53, a news correspondent of CBS News ’60 Minutes’, and served as White House correspondent, was said to have liked and respected by Fager, to take the place of Couric.

Katie Couric, 54, known as the first woman ever to anchor a weekday evening news program, is being rumored to be leaving CBS Evening News soon, and will not finish her contract which is set to end on June 4, 2011.

Reports revealed that Couric wanted to do a syndicated daytime show when she leaves CBS Evening News, but the news anchor has not confirmed the rumor.
