As noted at recently, Samuel Silva is a Portuguese lawyer, who went through Law School and graduated in 2007. He claims he only uses standard ballpoint pens for his drawings, which resulted to images almost similar to the photos he use as reference, and he is only a self taught patient hobbyist artist.

According to Silva’s profile at Deviantart, he has always been interested in drawing, sculpting and painting since he was 2 years old. He said he started drawing and developed his own style of ballpoint pen drawing back when he was in school, in simple classroom sketches in the back of his exercise books.

“Ballpoint pens are as underestimated as they are a powerful medium. It’s not about what you use; it’s about how you use it.” Silva, 29, wrote, adding that ballpoint pen is not his only medium, but is the one he is now trying to master. He said he is also proficient with chalk, pencil, color pencil, pastels, oils, and acrylics.

For his ‘Redhair girl‘ drawing art, Samuel said he used a photograph of Russian photographer Kristina Taraina, and it took him around 30 hours to finish. He claimed that for this art, he used six different colors of ballpoint pens including black, and these ballpoint pens are only the ordinary ones being sold in any store.
