Ryan Lochte failed to deliver another gold medal for the US team at day two of the 2012 London Olympics on Sunday, July 29, 2012, according to a report at the London 2012 website.
After winning the 400m individual medley on Saturday, Lochte reportedly blew the US team’s lead in the final leg of the men’s 4×100-meter relay swimming event the following day.
France went on to win the gold and the US settled for silver.
It was a reversal of fortune between the French and American team. In the Beijing Olympics, the US team captured the gold in a come from behind win over France.
US men’s swimming coach Gregg Troy blames Lochte‘s failure in not letting him swim the 100 freestyle during the trials.
Michael Phelps posted the fastest leg for the US swimming team at 47.15 seconds. Lochte registered 47.7 seconds.
France‘s Yannick Agnel provided the effort to overcome the US team’s lead. Agnel moved ahead of Ryan Lochte in the final 10 meters to win the team event in 3:09.83.
