As noted at international news sites on Sunday, September 18, 2011, Lebedev hit Polonsky on the face during a heated discussion about the financial crisis, with the latter falling from his chair.

Apparently, Lebedev and Polonsky were sitting beside each other and the former seemed to have lost his patience; stood up from his chair and had an exchange of words with the latter.

Lebedev, 51, noted to be a former KGB and owner of British newspapers Independent and Evening Standard, sat again but later threw punches on Polonsky‘s face when the latter reached out his hand.

Lebedev released another punch but did not hit Polonsky, who fell down on the floor but immediately managed to stand up. Station security rushed on the set and tried to pacify the two billionaires.

Russian NTV television channel posted the video clip of the said incident on their official website prior to its on Sunday night, with Lebedev justifying his actions through his blog.

“In a critical situation, there is no choice. I see no reason to be hit with the first shot. I neutralized him,” Lebedev was quoted on reports, noting that Polonsky was behaving inappropriately.

“Unfortunately, NTV viewers cannot see how Polonsky behaved during the one-and-a-half hour recording. Everybody could see that he was absolutely off his head,” Lebedev added.
