‘Rocky The Musical’ to be launched in Germany in November 2012, Sylvester Stallone as co-producer

Hollywood superstar Sylvester Stallone revealed on Monday, November 21, 2011, that he will be co-producing ‘Rocky The Musical‘, which will be launched in Hamburg, Germany in November 2012.

As noted by The Hollywood Reporter that day, “Rocky” star Sylvester Stallone is now working with world champion boxing brothers Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko to produce ‘Rocky: The Musical‘.

According to the report, the Rocky musical will be based on the film ‘Rocky‘, which was shown in 1976 and won three Oscar awards including Best Picture. It had five sequels; the last one ‘Rocky Balboa‘ was shown in 2006.

“At the end of the day, Rocky is a love story and he could never have reached the final bell without Adrian,” Stallone was quoted during his announcement, referring to Rocky‘s love interest played by Talia Shire in the movies.

“To see this story coming to life on a musical stage makes me proud. And it would make Rocky proud.” Stallone added; who also wrote all the Rocky movie series and directed four of them.

Meanwhile, Tony Award-winning songwriter Lynn Ahrens and composer Stephen Flaherty will write the musical score, and will include songs from the Rocky films, such as “Gonna Fly Now”, “Take You Back” and “Eye of the Tiger“.

The script for ‘Rocky The Musical‘ will be written by Broadway veteran Thomas Meehan and will be directed by while Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers.

As of this writing, casts were not revealed but the Klitchko brothers are being set to train the lead actor.
