New York City – On Tuesday night, New Yorkers and tourists gathered in New York City Rockefeller Center to watch the most awaited Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.

According to international reports, Mayor Michael Bloomberg helped turn on the 30,000 LED lights dressing the Christmas tree. It was followed by a show featuring live performances of different known celebrities such as Josh Groban, Jessica Simpson, Sheryl Crow, British singer Katherine Jenkins and teen pop star Charice Pempengco.

This year’s tree is a 74-foot Norway spruce donated by a New York City firefighter Peter Acton in Mahopac, New York. The 2010 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree can be viewed until January 7, 2011.

Despite the terror scare just few days ago in Oregon, the 78th annual Lighting Ceremony in NYC turned out successful. Reports said that the NYC police prepared for the sizable crowd by urging people to use the mass transit instead of cars to get there and by blocking off streets.
