‘Rio’ 3D film leads US Box office weekend, ‘Scream 4’ movie landed second

Rio‘, the 3D animated film which was tied up with the famous Angry Birds video game, lead the box office in the US this weekend, with the ‘Scream 4‘ movie on the second spot.

According to US news sites on Monday, April 18, 2011, 20th Century Fox’ movie ‘Rio’ made around $55 million in total this weekend, with an estimated $40 million gross in the US alone.

Rio, which features the voices of Anne Hathaway, George Lopez, Jessie Eisenberg, Leslie Mann, Will.i.am and a lot more, in which MTV News noted that the movie did 58 percent in the 3D screening.

As reported at Los Angeles Times, Rio is the first movie his year to gross more than $40 million but movie business this year is still down by 19% and movie audience had a 20% decline.

Meanwhile, ‘Scream 4‘ landed on the second spot with an estimated gross of $19.3 million this weekend, with business about 12% higher compared to the same period of last year.

Scream 4‘, the fourth series of the ‘Scream’ horror movies in which ‘Scream 3‘ was released in 2000, has an R rating, which was believed to be one of the reasons why audience is limited.

This third sequel of iconic Ghostface character, is being distributed by Dimension Films and directed by Wes Craven, with casts include David Arquette, Courteney Fox, and Neve Campbell, among others.
