RIM offers free BlackBerry Apps, as gratitude to customers after outage problems

Research In Motion (RIM) is now offering free BlackBerry Apps worth over $100 and a one-month free Technical Support, as its gratitude to patient customers after the recent outage problems.

As noted by RIM on its official website on Monday, October 17, 2011, the smartphone company is giving away free BlackBerry premium apps with a total value of more than $100.

According to the report, the free apps will be made available to customers at BlackBerry App World and will be available starting Wednesday, October 19 until December 31, 2011.

“We are grateful to our loyal BlackBerry customers for their patience,” RIM founder and Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis was quoted on the press release; who earlier released a public apology via YouTube.

“We have apologized to our customers and we will work tirelessly to restore their confidence. We are taking immediate and aggressive steps to help prevent something like this from happening again.” Lazaridis added.

In addition, RIM said that customers will be offered a one-month free Technical Support. BlackBerry users will be offered a complimentary one month extension of their existing Technical Support contract.

For customers without a Technical Support contract, they RIM will be offering them free one month trial of RIM’s BlackBerry Technical Support Services – Enhanced Support.

As reported earlier, the recent BlackBerry outage started last week in Europe, Middle East, India, and Africa; and even reached the US and North America.

BlackBerry users in these areas complained about delays in email services, BBM traffic, and web browsing. Operations went back to normal starting Thursday, with RIM saying that the outages were caused by a core switch failure within its infrastructure.
