Research in Motion (RIM) Blackberry maker may launch Blackpad next week, a source familiar with RIM’s plan told Wall Street Journal (WSJ) recently.

The Blackpad (or Surfpad) may be launched at the Devcon developer conference, which is scheduled on September 26.

According to reports, RIM’s latest tablet will feature a seven-inch touch screen and may have one or two built-in cameras, and will be available in the market in the fourth quarter of this year.

The sources also told WSJ that it will have Bluetooth and broadband connections, but will only be applicable to cellular networks through a BlackBerry smartphone.

The Blackpad may also give up the newly revamp Blackberry 6, and use a new operating system which was built by QNX Software Systems.

While RIM does not yet confirm any of these reports, the Blackpad is being expected to be a tough competitor against the Apple iPad and Amazon’s Kindle.
