Singer Rihanna donates $1.75 million to a hospital in her home country in Barbados, to honor the memory of her late grandmother, Clara Braithwaite, whom she calls Gran Gran Dolly and has passed away last summer after a battle with cancer. This apparently proves that the ‘Bad Girl’ singer also has a soft spot on her heart.

According to E! News this Saturday, December 22, 2012, Rihanna, who was born in Saint Michael, Barbados on February 20, 1988, recently generously donated $1.75 million to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, the capital and largest city of Barbados.

“This was my way of giving back to Barbados, in a form of philanthropy; by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program…I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives or at least extend them.” Rihanna was quoted in a statement.

“Goodbye #grangranDOLLY get your beauty rest until I see you.” Rihanna (@rihanna) tweeted last July 1, and posted some photos of herself with her grandmother intimate photos of herself and her ailing grandmother. That time, she received a lot of condolences including that from ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.

Shortly after her death, Rihanna paid tribute to her by getting a tattoo just above her ribcage, a feathered Egyptian goddess Iris, who was dubbed as a champion of the oppressed, a protector of the dead and the goddess of children. That time, she posted a PG-13 photo at Instagram revealing her new tattoo.

“She was a well-rounded woman. She taught me a lot about forgiveness, loving my enemies, spirituality, [and] strength as a woman.” The 24-year old ‘Where Have You Been’ singer told Oprah in an interview back in August, sharing what she learned from her grandmother, describing her as one of the greatest people she had ever known.

Meanwhile, Bridgetown‘s Queen Elizabeth Hospital will be renamed the Clara Braithwaite Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, in honor of Rihanna‘s grandmother.
