Richest Canadians 2010: Thomson Family Tops The List 12th Year In A Row

The Thomson family is still the richest Canadians based on the survey released on Thursday by the Canadian Business magazine.

It is the 12th year in a row for the Thomsons to hold the top spot of Canada‘s wealthiest list, according to the magazine.

According to the new survey, the Thomsons had their net worth increase by 6.2 percent this year, totalling to more than $23 billion.

The Thomsons own the Thomson Reuters, an information company created by the Thomson Corporation‘s purchase of Reuters in April 17, 2008. According to reports, it was ranked as Canada‘s “leading corporate brand’ in the 2010 Interbrand Best Canadian Brands ranking.

Here is the top ten list of 2010 richest Canadians according to Canadian Business magazine.

  1. Thomson family $23.36 billion
  2. Galen Weston $8.5 billion
  3. Irving family $7.46 billion
  4. Rogers family $6.02 billion
  5. James Pattison $5.53 billion
  6. Paul Desmarais Sr. $4.28 billion
  7. Bernard Sherman $3.94 billion
  8. Jeff Skoll $3.56 billion
  9. Saputo family $3.52 billion
  10. Fred and Ron Mannix $3.18 billion
