Colorado Rep. Doug Lamborn apologized to US President Obama for his “tar baby” comment during a Denver talk show. The apology was expressed through a letter, which explains why Lamborn used the term. This was disclosed by US news sites, Tuesday, August 2.

Further reports, revealed that Keith Olbermann, in his TV show, named Lamborn as the “Worst Person in the World” for his alleged racist remark. Olbermann stated that the term “tar baby” has always been “demeaning to African Americans.”

Reportedly, Lamborn explained that he should have used the word “quagmire” to explain Obama’s economic policies. Below is an excerpt of Lamborn’s statement:

“Even if some people say, ‘Well the Republicans should have done this or they should have done that,’ they will hold the President responsible. Now, I don’t even want to have to be associated with him. It’s like touching a tar baby and you get it, you’re stuck and you’re a part of the problem now and you can’t get away.”

The term “tar baby” is perceived as demeaning and a racial slur, but Lamborn reiterated that he was referring to a sticky situation and meant no disrespect to President Obama.
