According to the description on the YouTube video uploaded on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, Rebecca Black, described as a 14-year old singer, whose reputation has grown through social networks and for uploading YouTube music videos, met with young supporters of the PRI presidential candidate in Morelos.

Apparently, Rebecca Black, as translated by her Mexican mother Georgina Marquez in Spanish, spoke in front of them and talked about the importance of youth involvement in politics and later announced that she is supporting Enrique Peña Nieto.

“I can’t thank you enough and I’m so glad to kind of be home, because I have so much family (in Mexico) and so much support here from my family.” Black said, adding later that she believes “Peña Nieto is going to do a fantastic job”.

Nevertheless, just like when she became an instant YouTube sensation, Rebecca Black also received a lot of criticisms in her political endorsement, citing that she is not eligible to support any presidential candidate since she is not a Mexican and cannot even speak Spanish fluently.

“I think this is a bad joke from the PRI.” Mexican entertainment reporter and video blogger Astrid Capon was quoted as saying, noting that Black‘s uncle, Gustavo Petricioli is a city council member for the PRI in the capital city of Morelos state.

Likewise, a YouTube video commenter noted that “In Article 33 of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, foreigners should not in any way interfere in the political affairs of the country”, with Rebecca Black now also receiving negative comments on her official Facebook page.
