Courtney Lenz, a Ravens cheerleader, was barred from performing at 2013 Super Bowl allegedly over weight issues. An online petition was created and demanded Baltimore Ravens that she should be reinstated. Lenz, 23, has been cheerleader for the team since she was 18 years old, when she was still a college freshman.

“Baltimore Ravens 5 year veteran cheerleader, Courtney L was given notice she would not be performing with her teammates at the Super Bowl XLVII. The director & front office explained they could only take 32 members of the squad and all 3+ year veterans would be going.” A statement reads on the petition at GoPetition.com.
“Courtney announced she was retiring during the last home game at the end of the season which didn’t go well with the director. She was told she didn’t put in as many appearance hours this season as she did the past 4 yrs while in college.” The online petition added, which was launched on Friday, January 25, 2013.
“They also stated she struggled with weight on occasion & she had been benched for 2 lb weight gain during a game earlier in the fall, which is an absurd, unhealthy and a complete inaccurate measurement of a woman’s “appearance” and size!” The petition explained further, which has also a Facebook page “Help us get Courtney to Superbowl’ that has now more than 3,500 Likes.
The petition, which was created by Debbie Kammerer and has now more than 17,000 signatures, noted that Courtney Lenz is the only veteran on the team that was barred from the upcoming 2013 Super Bowl, despite being ranked 57 among the 100 hottest cheerleaders this season, became a featured cheerleader in lots of print articles.
“I wouldn’t even have reached out and let fans know if I didn’t think it was clearly wrong. I’m just devastated by the whole situation. This was very unexpected…I didn’t even think there would be a chance of me not going with being a five-year veteran.” Lenz was quoted telling to ABCNews.com on Tuesday, January 29.
Meanwhile, Baltimore Ravens spokeswoman Heather Harness said that their “selection process was based upon three criteria: seniority, performance ability, and personal conduct throughout the season. As much as we would like to take the whole team, we are unable to do so, due to parameters set by the NFL.”
