A rare white rhino named Nesari, 39-year old and one of the world’s last known white rhinoceroses was said to have died in her sleep due to old age in Dvur Kralove zoo in Northern Bohemia, according to a report of the Czech News Agency on June 2, 2011.

Nesari is one of the two northern white rhinos in Dvur Kralove zoo and her passing is “an irretrievable loss,” Jana Mysliveckova, zoo spokeswoman was quoted saying in a report.

According to a press release in December 2009, “northern white rhinos are the world’s rarest large mammal and are listed as critically endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature, (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species and are thought to be extinct in the wild.”

It was said that Nesari‘s passing leaves the zoo with one remaining northern white rhino, Nabire, a 30-year-old female white rhino.
