President Obama to host the 2011 Kennedy Center Honors, Meryl Streep included as awardees

US President Barack Obama is set to host the 2011 Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday, December 04, 2011, and actress Meryl Streep is included as among the awardees.

According to a post at Kennedy-Center.org recently, President Obama will host the 34th Kennedy Center Honors and will award five recipients to be held at the White House reception.

The five artists to be awarded this year are, singer Barbara Cook; singer and songwriter Neil Diamond; cellist Yo-Yo Ma; saxophonist and composer Sonny Rollins; and Hollywood actress Meryl Streep.

Streep, 62, a multi-awarded actress, is also among being predicted to win an Oscar next for her role as Margaret Thatcher in the movie “The Iron Lady“, which will be shown in the US on December 30, 2011.

“This year, the Kennedy Center celebrates its 40th anniversary by selecting five extraordinary individuals whose collective artistry has contributed significantly to the cultural life of our nation and the world,” Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein was quoted on reports.

As noted in the press release, the 2011 Kennedy Center Honors gala will be broadcast on CBS as a two-hour prime-time special on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 9 p.m. ET.

This will be the third year for President Obama to host the annual Kennedy Center Honors, with the last year’s event featured Oprah Winfrey and Paul McCartney as among the recipients.
