As noted at BarackObama.com on Thursday, President Obama made a surprise visit to the campaign office in Chicago and was seen crying as he thanked his campaign workers, whom he referred as “the best campaign team and volunteers in the history of politics,” with his slogan “Forward” behind him.

On the early part of his speech, the newly re-elected president said that his campaign workers, who are in their 20s and 30s, reminded him during the time when he was a community organizer in Chicago and was as young as them then, and recalls his hardships that time.

“It’s not that you remind me of myself; it’s that you’re so much better than I was. You’re smarter and you’re better organized and you’re more effective. What Bobby Kennedy called the ‘ripples of hope,’ when you throw a stone in the lake, that’s you.” President Obama said on his more than 5-minute speech.

“And that’s why even before last night’s results, I felt that the work that I had done in running for office had come full circle. Because what you guys have done means that the work that I am doing is important. And I’m really proud of that. I’m really proud of all of you.” He said, with his voice starting to break up and later cried.

“What you guys accomplished will go on in annals of history…but the most important thing you need to know is your journey’s just beginning. You’re just starting. That’s been my source of hope.” Obama added, after pausing for awhile and wiped his tears, with the crowd cheering and gave him a warm round of applause.

“It’s been why the last four years when people ask me how do you put up with this or that, the frustrations of Washington, I think of what you guys are doing. That’s the source of my hope, my strength and my inspiration.” President Obama further said.
