Pope Benedict XVI joins Twitter, Vatican news site launched

Pope Benedict XVI is now on Twitter, and personally launched the latest Vatican news website on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, and send his first tweet.

As noted at News.va, the website itself, Pope Benedict XVI joined Twitter and announced the launch of a new Vatican news website, which also marked the 60th anniversary of his ordination as a priest.

“Dear Friends, I just launched News.va. Praised be our Lord Jesus Christ! With my prayers and blessings, Benedictus XVI,” the Pope’s first tweet said on Tuesday, using an Apple iPad.

As earlier reported, News.va will be Vatican news website and will contain news from the Vatican’s newspaper, “Osservatore Romano”, and TV and radio media outlets as well.

Photos and videos of the Pope‘s activities as well as commentaries on the events in Vatican and of the Roman Catholic Church around the world will also be included on the said website.

Among the latest news posted at News.va is the schedule of Pope Benedict XVI to Madrid, Spain where the 2011 World Youth Day celebration be made from August 16 to 21, 2011.

The Pope is being set to arrive at Barajas airport in Madrid on Thursday, August 18, 2011, and will be greeted by hundreds of youth as a ceremony to take place.
