The poorest state in the US is Mississippi, while Maryland is the richest state, according to the 2011 data of the US Census Bureau.

Reports say that the 2011 Census list indicates that Mississippi has a median income of only $36,919.

Meanwhile, Maryland‘s median income of $70,004 is almost twice as much as Mississippi.
