Philippine Independence Day 2011: PNoy To Deliver First Independence Day Speech

On Sunday, June 12, 2011, the Philippines will be celebrating its 113th Independence Day. According to local reports, Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III or PNoy is expected to deliver his first Independence Day message.

The Philippine government has set aside P10 million for the June 12, Independence Day celebration with the theme, “Kalayaan: Panindigan ng Bayan.”(Freedom: Nation Stand For It)

On Friday night, June 10, a freedom concert was held at the Ayala Triangle Gardens.

PNoy will lead the wreath-laying and flag raising ceremonies at the Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite.

Other Philippine Independence day events include:

  • Kalayaan 2011 Parade at the Quirino Grandstand at 4 pm, and
  • Installation art around Makati City.

Reports say that the authorities will be deploying additional police and military personnel in the area of the celebration.

According to the traffic enforcement unit of the Manila Police District, some roads in Metro Manila will be closed due to the Independence Day celebration.

The north and southbound lane along Roxas Boulevard, from Katigbak to T.M. Kalaw will be closed to traffic from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. during the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies.
