“Twitter family – Phil finally gave me that ring I wanted! :-)” Jeanie Buss (@JeanieBuss) tweeted this Thursday, January 3, 2013, along with the photo of her stunning engagement ring, which appears to be an emerald-cut diamond ring edged by two smaller emerald-cut diamonds.
“I’m beyond happy. I really didn’t want it to be news, but I knew people who followed me on Twitter cared about it and I’ve been wearing the ring since Christmas, so I figured I should let people know.” Buss, 51, told ESPNLosAngeles.com. The couple started dating Jackson in 2001, the second year of Phil as the Lakers coach.
Jackson, 67, nicknamed ‘Zen Master’, won five NBA titles from 2000 until 2010 when he was the coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. But in total, he had won 11 NBA titles, where he got six of them when he was the head coach of the Chicago Bulls from 1989 until 1998.
Phil Jackson holds the record for the most championships in NBA history as a player and a head coach and has the highest winning percentage of any NBA coach (.704). He retired in 2011 and was replaced by Mike Brown, who was later fired. There were rumors that Jackson will return, but it was Mike D’Antoni who eventually became the Lakers coach.
As of this writing, no wedding date has been announced. Nevertheless, it will be Jackson‘s third marriage. He married his first wife, Maxine, in 1967, but they divorced in 1972. He married his second wife, June, in 1974, but the couple also ended up in a divorce. All in all, Jackson has five children and seven grandchildren.
