Pepsi bottles have become environment friendly as PepsiCo Inc. revealed on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 that they have developed the world’s first plastic bottle made entirely from plants and other renewable resources as part of its company-wide effort to reduce its carbon footprint, according to international news sites.

The new Pepsi bottles are made from switch grass, pine bark, corn husks and other materials. PepsiCo also created a molecular structure that is identical to petroleum-based PET, mirroring in touch and look of its traditional bottles.

The new plastic has no smell and no taste, PepsiCo stressed. The pilot production of the new bottle is to be launched next year, and if successful will lead to the product’s use for all drinks in the future.
