As noted by Paypal on its official website that day, PayPal Here is a new payment solution that aims to help small businesses get paid, whether they do business online, offline or on mobile, along with some options.

According to Paypal, PayPal Here users can accept payments by swiping cards with a fully encrypted thumb-sized card reader, or use a phone camera to scan and process cards and checks, as well as to invoice directly from the mobile app.

“In addition to accepting more payment methods, PayPal Here offers a simple flat rate of 2.7% for card swipes and PayPal payments.” PayPal mobile vice president David Marcus wrote on

“Merchants are also given a business debit card for quick access to their funds and 1% cash back on eligible purchases – which means if you use the debit card, your fees are actually just 1.7%!” Marcus added.

“No business will ever have to say they can’t accept a form of payment.” Marcus was quoted in reports, during the ‘PayPal Here‘ announcement at a press event at Ghirardelli Square, in San Francisco that day.

PayPal noted that the small, purple triangular card reader, which is still on Beta, will be sent to iPhone customers that day in the U.S., Canada, Hong Kong, and Australia; and will be available in Europe soon, as well as to Android users.
