Paul Psychic OctopusPaul the “psychic” Octopus, died after a short but successful career as a tipster. As a tipster, Paul successfully predicted the result of seven games that Germany played during the World Cup. He even predicted the winners in the finals, by choosing one of the two boxes loaded with a mussel food treat and marked on the outside with one of the teams.

In a statement, the aquarium said that “management and staff at the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre were devastated to discover that oracle octopus Paul, who achieved global renown during the recent World Cup, had passed away overnight.”

Paul appeared to have passed away peacefully of natural causes during the night, Stefan Porwoll, the manager of the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre in Germany was quoted saying. “His success made him almost a bigger story than the World Cup itself. We may decide to give Paul his own small burial plot within our grounds and erect a modest permanent shrine,” Porwoll said.

Since common octopus generally lives for only a couple of years, staff at the centre said that Paul‘s death was not entirely unexpected.
