The 49th Paris Air Show opened on Monday, June 20, 2011 at Le Bourget airport in Paris, France, according to reports by several international news sites.

The 2011 Paris Air Show is expected to showcase aircraft from traditional rivals Airbus SAS and The Boeing Co. One of the anticipated highlights of the event will be the demonstration of the solar airplane, Solar Impulse.

Airbus SAS, a subsidiary of European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. NV or EADS is expected to put on display its A320neo, a fuel efficient aircraft. However, reports say that due to gearbox problem, the planned flight display of the A400M military craft was called off. The A380 flying display was also stopped due to a wing tip damage.

Boeing is reportedly showcasing its “cleaner and more efficient747-8 Intercontinental airplane. Its 747-8 Freighter, a plane that uses a mix of conventional jet fuel and sustainable biofuel, will also be on display during the Air Show.

The 787 Dreamliner aircraft, to be used by Japan‘s All Nippon Airways, is expected to provide a big impact during the 2011 Paris Air Show.
