Palace suspends classes and government work in the NCR, as recommended by NDRRMC

Malacañang Palace on Tuesday suspended college classes and work in all government offices in the National Capital Region (NCR) starting 1:00 p.m. due to the  heavy rains and flooding in many places in Metro Manila, as reported by several local news sites, August 2, 2011.

The announcement was reportedly released by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Jr. based on urgent recommendations from the office of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Similarly, related announcement was made by Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda through a message from his Twitter account.

Apparently, Lacierda attested that he announced the suspensions, along with the members of the Presidential Communication Group, as ordered by Ochoa and upon the recommendation by the NDRRMC.

The Department of Education also suspended classes in pre-school, elementary and high school levels.
