A Low Pressure Area (LPA) is being monitored by Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) that is now within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The weather bureau spotted the new LPA estimated based on satellite and surface data at 490 km east of Southern Mindanao at around 2:00 am today.

PAGASA‘s 5:00 pm bulletin said that around 2:00 pm today, the new LPA is estimated at 190 km East of Mindanao (7.5°N, 128.5°E) embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

According to PAGASA forecaster Elvie Enriquez in an interview on dzBB radio, the new LPA has a low chance of becoming a cyclone, but they are not discounting the possibilities. She said that if the LPA intensifies into a cyclone inside the Philippine territory, it will be named “Egay“.
