The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) latest weather forecast and update showed more rains in Metro Manila is expected in the coming days until Sunday. PAGASA OIC and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary Graciano Yumul said in radio interview that more rains is expected in other areas like Bicol and some parts of Visayas.

Yumul explained that the rains experienced recently is due to the convergence of the northeast monsoon or “Amihan” and easterly winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.

Below are the other areas that may experience heavy rains due to the northeast monsoon.

  • Ilocos Norte
  • Cagayan
  • Isabela
  • Quezon Province
  • Aurora

Yumul explained that the rains being experienced in Metro Manila is not related to the low pressure area (LPA) about 330 kilometers off Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

In line with this, the Department of Education (DepEd) announced the suspension of Friday, December 9 afternoon classes in National Capital Region (NCR) including Metro Manila.
