PAGASA Typhoon Kabayan and Tropical Depression Lando updates as of 11 pm July 31

Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced its latest updates on Typhoon Kabayan and the new Tropical Depression Lando.

PAGASA noted on its official website that as of 11 p.m. (local time) on Sunday, July 31, 2011, Typhoon “Kabayan” has maintained its strength and moving 13 kph in a Northeast direction.

PAGASA said that Typhoon “Kabayan” is now 1,125 km East of Tuguegarao City and has maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph.

Although Typhoon “Kabayan” is being estimated to be over Basco, Batanes from Monday until Wednesday evening, PAGASA noted that it is too far to directly affect any part of the country.

Meanwhile, PAGASA stressed out that the Active Low Pressure Area West of Northern Luzon has now developed into a Tropical Depression and was named “Lando“.

According to PAGASA, “Bagyong Lando” has maintained its strength while it continues to move northwestward and is 240 kms West of Dagupan City as of 11 p.m. on Sunday, July 31.

Tropical Depression (TD) Lando has now maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and is being estimated to be 280 km West Northwest of Dagupan City on Monday evening.

PAGASA noted that it will further intensify the southwest monsoon and will bring scattered to widespread rains over Luzon and Visayas particularly the western section.

As of this writing, no Public Storm Signal has been raised on any part of the country, as the next PAGASA weather forecast bulletin to be released on 5 a.m. Monday, August 1.
