The United States of America (USA) continues to lead over China in the latest Olympic medal count, as of Saturday, August 11, 2012, or Day 15 (second to the last day) of the London Olympics 2012, as shown in the Top 20 table below, with USA winning the most number of gold, silver, and bronze medals, and in over-all medal count as well.

As noted at the official website of London 2012 that day, USA has now a total of 102 medals won, with 44 of them are gold, and 29 each for silver and bronze; while China has already won 38 gold medals, 27 silver medals, and 22 bronze medals, for a total of 87 medals; or 15 medals behind USA.

On the other hand, host country Britain lands on the third spot with 28 gold, 15 silver, and 19 bronze medals; or a total of 62 medals won. Russia is on the fourth place, followed by South Korea, Germany, France, Italy, Hungary, and Australia, to complete the Top 10 countries with the most number of Olympic medals won.

Among the athletes who won the latest gold medal is the US women’s basketball team, which won their fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal after beating France, 86-50, held at the at the North Greenwich Arena. The team has already won 41st Olympic game in a row.

For the top record-making American athletes, among them are Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, and Gabby Douglas, who is the first African-American gymnast to become the individual all-around champion in the history of Olympics. She was later immortalized by Kellogg’s Corn Flakes on their special box edition.

On the lighter side, Douglas’ teammate, McKayla Maroney is the most meme’d London Olympics athlete and after she was photographed looking unimpressed while standing in the podium, while receiving silver medal in Olympic Vault, instead of the much-expected gold medal.
