As aired at NBC on Friday, November 30, 2012, Larry DePrimo and Jennifer Foster met for the first time on Today Show after that event on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, where DePrimo bought a new pair of boots and gave it to a homeless man, with Foster taking photo of the act without his knowledge.
“It was freezing. The first thing I thought was this is absolutely unacceptable, so I went up to him and I said, ‘Where are your socks or shoes or anything?'” DePrimo told NBC‘s Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, noting that he was then wearing two pairs of socks along with combat shoes but he still feels very cold.
“I really didn’t think about the money. When I went to them I said, ‘listen, there’s an elderly man, he doesn’t have any shoes or socks on, i don’t care what the price, is we’ve got to help him out.'” DePrimo added, who paid a bit higher than $75 for the new boots at a Sketcher‘s store nearby.
“This was the second time I had seen the gentleman in the city, two days in a row, and not at any point before that had he seemed as happy as he was when officer Deprimo came up to him.” Foster, who gave the photo to the NYPD, which eventually went viral and has over 5905,000 Likes and 215,000 Shares.
Meanwhile, a press conference by NYPD was also held and DePrimo said he heard people behind him laughing at the homeless man. triggering him to offer help but the man did not ask for anything from him. He said he later learned that the man’s shoe size is 12″, and did not hesitate to buy boots for him.
“He was extremely thankful. He had a smile from ear to ear, which is something I’ll never forget. And he said, ‘Thank you, officer.’ He’s like, ‘God bless you and be safe out there.’ He kept on going on his way. I asked him if he wanted to get a cup of coffee and food but he didn’t want to and he just kept on going.” DePrimo said on the press conference.
