As announced by Restaurant Magazine on Monday, April 18, 2011, Noma won the world’s best restaurant award and held the title for two straight years, which was judged by nearly 840 restaurant industry experts.

Chef Rene Redzepi owns the Noma Restaurant, which is based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Last year, Noma beat El Bulli of Spain, which won the award for four consecutive years.

Apparently, El Bulli was removed from this year’s competition since owner Chef Ferran Adrià announced earlier the closure of his restaurant late this year.

Nevertheless, three other Spanish restaurants landed on the Top 10 World’s Best Restaurant, which all of them had their rank higher than last year.

The Fat Duck of England which was on the third spot last year dropped to rank 5 in this year’s list, while D.O.M. of Brazil climbed to number 7 from last year’s rank 18.

On the other hand, Per Se of New York maintained its 10th place last year as Alinea of Chicago jumped a rank higher from last year’s number 7.
