The Nobel Peace Committee said that the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony this year may be postponed and the prize may not be handed out to Liu Xiabo because he remains in prison.

Reports said that China will not allow Liu Xiabo‘s family to attend the Nobel Peace Ceremony on his behalf. His wife, Liu Xia has also been under house arrest and subject to police escort.

Nobel Committee officials said that there are no relatives of Liu who have announced plans to attend the ceremony.

The Nobel Peace event will be held on December 10, 2010 in Oslo, Norway. The $1.4 million award is expected to go unclaimed for the first time since 1936, however, Nobel Committee official said that “if someone shows up at the last minute, it will not be a problem to change plans.”
