Nina Pham, a 26-year-old nurse from Texas has been identified as the nurse who contracted Ebola while taking care of Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person to die of Ebola in the United States.

According to Yahoo News, Pham’s family confirmed her identity to WFAA, a local Dallas ABC News affiliate.

Reports said that Pham has been isolated since late Friday. Her diagnosis was confirmed by the CDC on Sunday, October 12. This is said to be the first case that the Ebola virus has ever been transmitted in the US soil.

According to reports, how Pham specifically contracted the virus from Duncan has not been determined yet.

“If this one individual was infected and we don’t know how — within the isolation unit — then it is possible that other individuals could have been infected as well… We consider them to be at risk and we are doing an in-depth review and investigation,” CDC director Dr. Thomas Frieden was quoted as saying during a press conference.
