Nicolas Cage to star in German film ‘Black Butterfly’, filming starts in 2012

Nicolas Cage is being set to star in a German film with a working title of ‘Black Butterfly‘, which will be the first English-language project made by German movie outfit, Bavariapool.

According to The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, the filming of the ‘Black Butterfly‘ will start in early 2012 in eastern Germany and will cost about $13 million.

As noted in the report, the “Face/Off” star will play the role of a lonely writer named Paul in the psycho-thriller movie, with German actress Veronica Ferres as the lead female star.

The ‘Black ButterflyGerman movie is based on the 2008 French TV thriller “Papillon noir“, and will be directed by American actor and TV director, Brian Goodman, whose works include “What Doesn’t Kill You“, also in 2008.

The screenplay will be made by Steve Hilts and Justin Stanley, and the project recently received €750,000 ($1.03m) from the Leipzig-based regional funding body, MDM.

The said film is being co-produced by L.A.-based Paradox Entertainment and and Hyde Park as the co-financer, with no further details revealed as of this writing.

Cage, 47, recently starred in the movie “Trespass” opposite Nicole Kidman, which premiered in the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival last month and had a limited release in the US last Friday, October 14.
