Nexus S with Gingerbread Introduced, Available Through Best Buy and Carphone

United StatesGoogle has announced the availability of Samsung’s Nexus S smartphone as reported in googlemobile.blogspot.com . Google also released the development kits for ‘Gingerbread’, version 2.3 of Android.

It turns out that the rumors about the new Android Phone is true, although the name is Nexus S and not Nexus 2 as reported earlier.

Report further says that  is the fastest version of Android, and has lots of improvements, such as user interface refinements, NFC support, a new keyboard and text selection tool, Internet (VoIP/SIP) calling, improved copy/paste functionality and gyroscope sensor support.

Nexus S official site says that it will be available after December 16, Nexus S will be sold unlocked and carrier-independent initially through Best Buy stores in the U.S. and after December 20 at Carphone Warehouse stores in the UK.

Carphone and Best Buy said that they would offer the Nexus S unlocked for $529 in the United States or for $199 with a T-Mobile contract.

In Britain, it will cost 549.95 pounds ($862) unlocked, or will come free with a contract of 35 pounds per month for a term and with an operator yet to be announced.

The two retailers said they would be the exclusive sellers in those two markets of the Nexus S, which supports a technology that lets people use their handsets instead of credit cards for payments.
