Newport Beach Plane Crash

A private single-engine Beechcraft Musketeer plane crashed in the waters of Newport Beach on Sunday evening, according to intenational news sites. The small private plane was registered to Palos real estate agent Chuck Chambers. The three passengers of the plane did not survive the crash. Based on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) initial investigation, the plane is traveling from Mexico and is heading towards Torrance when it crashed at about 5:45 p.m.

According to the Newport Beach Police, the pilot was able to send a distress call and requested to land on the street near the Fashion Island shopping mall. Police made an effort to clear the Newport Center Drive to give way for the plane to land, however, the plane did not make it and crashed into a mud flat in the nearby Back Bay. The plane was positioned upside down in the water, with its landing gear pointing upwards.

The identities of the plane was not available as of posting. Investigation by the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is underway. According to  NTSB, it could take months to determine the cause of the accident.
