New7Wonders of Nature voting ends, Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) may win, Mayor Edward Hagedorn says

Manila, Philippines – The New7Wonders of Nature voting has ended, with Puerto Princesa Mayor Edward Hagedorn saying he is confident that Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) in Palawan will win.

As noted by New7Wonders President Bernard Weber at the official news site of New7Wonders of Nature on Friday, November 11, 2011, the voting has ended and counting of the votes has begun.

“By taking the time to take part, you have shown that you care about something that is very important to all of us: our home, Mother Earth.” Weber wrote on the report, thanking everyone who supported the project.

“I would especially like to extend by deepest gratitude to each and every one of the 28 Finalists. You impressed us with your commitment; you astonished us with your energy.” Weber added.

According to a post at New7Wonders.com, the voting ended on Friday, Nov. 11 (11-11-11) at 11:11:11 (GMT) and provisional counting is underway. Preliminary results will be announced via their website at 7:07pm (GMT).

Meanwhile, Puerto Princesa City Mayor Edward Hagedorn expressed confidence that Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) will be among the ‘New 7 Wonders of Nature‘ winners, revealing that it is among the Top 10 Contenders.

“The turning point of the campaign was when our very own President Noynoy Aquino (PNoy) came out with a statement supporting the campaign,” Hagedorn was quoted at Philippine Information Agency website on Friday.

“And there was also a directive to national agencies to support the underground river campaign which made our ranking jumped even higher.” The mayor added, referring to the Proclamation 182 issued by PNoy to create a task force for the PPUR campaign.
