New Zealand Earthquake 3.0 Magnitude Occurring at 7:30 AM NZST

A New Zealand earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 occurred, May 21, 2011, Saturday at 7:30 am NZST, Universal time 9:30 May 20, 2011. This was reported by GeoNet New Zealand (geonet.org.nz), May 20, 2011.

The 3.0 earthquake is within 5 km of the Christchurch which was the area of the previous 6.3 earthquake that had caused damages to life and property last February 21, 2011. It has caused the collapse of a church, a bridge and airports were closed because of the earthquake’s intensity.

According to the report, the recent 3.0 earthquake has latitude of 43.57 degrees S, and 172.64 degrees E. It reportedly occurred in the Canterbury region. No injuries were reported for the New Zealand 3.0 earthquake, for the moment.
