New Yahoo homepage unveiled by Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, appears on NBC’s Today Show (Video)

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer unveiled the new Yahoo homepage on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, which is now offering a fresh design compatible to today’s era of smartphone web browsing and “quite personal in nature.” Yahoo.com is now optimized across mobile devices, with newly designed apps for social networks such as Facebook.

As aired at NBC‘s Today Show on Wednesday morning, as shown in the video below, Marissa Mayer unveiled the newly-designed Yahoo.com and explained the changes on the Yahoo‘s offer to viewers while reading the latest news, knowing scores on various sports, or any form information online searching.

“Well, I think that we’re really focused on the world’s daily habits and making them more inspiring and entertaining. And so that means taking the things that Yahoo!’s always been great at, the home page, search, mail, news, finance, sports.” Marissa Mayer told show host Savannah Guthrie.

“Well, one, we have these nice, big, bold images here, the ability to actually quickly go through all kinds of different editorial content up here on the top. But then we also have, one of the things I really like, which is this very personalized news feed down below. It’s infinite, so you can just keep scrolling forever.” Ms. Mayer said, showing one of the changes in the new Yahoo homepage.

Earlier that day, Marissa Mayer also posted at the official Yahoo blog, saying that the new Yahoo.com is “designed to be more intuitive and personal,” with Yahoo is introducing a newsfeed with infinite scroll and virtually endless feed of news articles, which will be rolled out to all customers within the next few days.

As noted at ABCNews.com that day, Yahoo had 392 million worldwide visitors last month, quoting a report from ComScore Inc. Nevertheless, Mayer told NBC that Yahoo has some 700 million users a month on the website, and that there are around 200 million monthly users on mobile.

However, a lot of observers are wondering why the Yahoo CEO appeared on NBC‘s Today Show, instead of ABC‘s “Good Morning America.” This is despite the fact that ABCNews.com has a content sharing agreement with Yahoo.com via GMA.Yahoo.com, and these two shows are directly competing with each other.
