The printing of the new hundred dollar bill design has given a major problem to the US Treasury. The new $100 bill was released in April and scheduled for circulation in February. The fancy security features of the new bill has caused the printing problems of the new notes.

The new bill has a disappearing Liberty Bell and a bright blue security strip composed of hundreds of tiny lenses. However, these security features caused wrinkles on the new bill and eventually blank spots over the bill during printing where these wrinkles are present.

The defective new $100 bills will be destroyed according to the US Treasury.

The cost of producing each $100 bill is 12.5 cents. This translates to $137.5 million the costs of all the 1.1 billion pieces of bills that will be destroyed due to the printing error.
