A new Pepsi bottle design was introduced by the New York-based softdrink manufacturer on Thursday, March 21, 2013.
The new bottle was the first major redesign by Pepsico Inc. since 1966 and will be made available by April this year. According to Pepsico, the new design will replace all existing soda bottles within two years.
After 17 years, Pepsi will be rolling out a 20-ounce bottle with a new shape as part of its marketing strategy. It has a “contoured bottom half that appears easier to grip, and the wrap-around label is shorter so that more of the drink is exposed.”
Pepsico spokeswoman, Andrea Foote, reveals that the new 20-ounce bottle design is part of the company’s marketing and packaging strategy to improve sales of its soda brand.
The softdrink maker has earlier inked a multi-year sponsorship deal of the Super Bowl halftime show. They also signed a deal with pop star Beyonce.
Other bottles that will use the new design will include the 16-ounce bottles, Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max and Pepsi Next.
New York, Chicago, parts of California and Florida will be the pilot areas for the new bottle design. Foote explained that “The engineers have to go to all the plants and convert the lines.”
