As featured on NBA on Sunday night, Deron Williams scored 57 points and broke Nets‘ earlier mark of 52 points, which was shared by Mike Newlin and Ray Richardson, to beat the Bobcats that has now 5 straight losses.

As noted at NBA statistics, Williams was 16-of-29 from the field and 21-of-21 in his free throw attempts, and made 7 assists and 5 turnovers, with his previous 42 career high points made back in April 2010, against Oklahoma City Thunders.

Williams, who will be free agent this summer, played 38 minutes in the game and scored 22 points in the third quarter alone, dominating Bobcats‘ smaller forwards, with Charlotte finishing the first half leading by 8 points (53-45).

“When you’re hot, you just have to go with it. Things weren’t going right in the first half and I was able to bring along the offense. When you get hot like that, you have to roll with it.” Williams was quoted after the game, who reached his 50-point mark with 2:59 remaining in the game.

Apparently, the Nets was leading by two points (96-94) with 1:04 remaining, but Kris Humphries, who made a total of 11 points, missed two consecutive free throws. Later, Deron Williams completed two points giving his team a four-point lead.

With 1.7 seconds left in the game, Bobcats attempted to cut the lead by two but MarShon Brooks completed only one of his two free throws. D.J. Augustin made the last attempt but was not successful and the ball did not even hit the rim.
